Boar Hunt:The Dark Ages Game is our first redesigned game.
We will still be making the "classic" version which many of
you have come to know over the years but we have come out with
a "DELUXE" version which we are VERY proud of.

The theme of the game has finally been realized in the way that
the designer first envisioned when he designed Boar Hunt years ago.

Instead of a leather "Acorn" board which gets folded into a little
wooden box, we have turned it into a solid wood "Acorn" shaped board
that is finely decorated using "pyrography" where the design is
actually burnt into the wood.

Instead of the traditional glass gems that we used before we have
sculpted a set of "Hunters" and "Boars" that have the look and feel of
game pieces from the Dark Ages. After the originals were sculpted, we
made detailed casts of the originals and use a rock-hard casting
compound to show all the details of the originals but will have a real heft
to them. We then finish each set by hand and give it that antique look that
people come to expect from Acorn Games.

Above is a picture of our new cover art showing two hunters in pursuit
of a wild boar. Below is a picture which shows the new game and it's
quality components. The "Acorn" gameboard is made from a solid plank
and measures approximately 6.5 inches wide by 9 inches long and is
3/4 of an inch thick. The playing pieces are also quite heavy
and have a real solid feel to them much like carved
game pieces from the Dark Ages.

This game will look real sharp if left on display on your coffee
table or book shelf. We are sure that Boar Hunt will give you
years of pleasure.

BOAR HUNT ™ "The Dark Ages Game" ™ BLACK BOAR HUNT : The Dark Ages Game ™ You are a Dark Age Hunter creeping silently through the vast oak forest in search of the Wild Boars that feed on the acorns which are the bounty of the forest. You hear a bird call that you recognize as a signal from one your hunting partner. You grip your Boar Spear tightly as you circle around the Boar so that the savage beast is trapped between you and one of your partners. BUT WAIT ! You hear the calls of a band of rival hunters from a neighboring tribe. Who will get their Boar first? The answer could very well mean either feast or famine for your tribe! The Hunt Is On!!! BOAR HUNT ™ is an exciting game with roots going back into ancient times when people lived off the land and wild game provided much needed food to see them through the long, dark winters. Games were a very good way for them to pass the time and strategy games helped to sharpen their minds. Games like this were played by the Ancient Celts of Ireland and other Celtic peoples for millennia. BOAR HUNT ™ is Acorn Games's new 100% ORIGINAL game. On the surface it may look deceptively simple but don't let that fool you. BOAR HUNT ™ has more twists and turns than a Primeval Forest and will provide you with hours of pleasure. BOAR HUNT ™ is simple enough for a younger child to learn in a few minutes, yet can still baffle the most accomplished Chess player. Each player commands a team of three warrior/hunters who are trying to capture their wild boar while at the same time, the other team is trying to capture their own wild boar. There are two distinctive phases to this game. Either player has a chance of winning during either the "placement" or "movement" phase of the game much like most of the games played in ancient times such as 9-man's Morris. Our games are hand-crafted in the Acorn Games studios in the beautiful Monadnock Region of New Hampshire. The game boards are all cut from solid wood and decorated using "pyrography" which is an ancient decoration technique where the design is actually burnt into the wood. The playing pieces are all coldcast from molds of our original sculpted game pieces. After being cast, the piece are painstakingly hand finished to give them an awesome, antiqued look. Both the "warriors" and the "boars" were made to look like the type of figural game pieces that would have historically been used. Each game also contains with a parchment "scroll" which has the complete game rules and a velvet pouch to store your pieces in.
