GAMES of the WORLD has been a pet project of ours for years.
We've always wanted to produce games with a solid wood board
and playing pieces that allow you to play a multitude of games.
We have gathered together four classic games from around the
world and have designed four of our own games that can all be
played on a classic "Alquerque" board. We have included a PDF file
on this page which has the rules and diagram for playing this
classic game from Spain called "ALQUERQUE" and we also
have another PDF file that you can download which has
the rules for one of Acorn Games's own games that we
have aptly named "FOURTRESS ^tm". Fourtress is an exciting
where you are trying to be the fist player to form
a "FOURTRESS" from your own playing pieces.

We have always thought that it would be neat to
publish a game where you are able to mix
classic games with new games and we
are proud label our new game.

When you do as much research into historic games as we do
here at Acorn Games, you are amazed at how many games are
played on very similar boards. Most people in the West are
familiar with games played on "checker" or "chess" boards
but there are even more games from around the world which
are played on boards which have a series of vertical
horizontal and diagonal lines on them.

We found some games which can use 12 or less pieces
of each color that can all be played on the same board.
Next we set out to see if we could design a series of
new games which use the same pieces and board but have
either more modern moves or conditions of victory to
make them appeal to todays game players.

The classic games that you will find in our book are;

Alquerque from Spain
Seega from Africa and Egypt
Cercar La Liebre also from Spain
Five Field Kono from Korea

The new games from Acorn Games in the book are;

Fourtress ^tm a "condition" game
Centaurs ^tm a "replacement" game
Troop ^tm another replacement game
Neutrino ^tm another condition game

In a "Replacement Game" the players are each trying to get from
their starting point to where their opponent started out from.
Sort of like in "Chinese Checkers"

In a "Condition Game" the players
are trying to be the first player to DO something. This may be to
get something like getting 3-in-a-row as in TicTacToe but not
mattering WHERE on the board you achieve this.

The fact that you get 8 games in one and are able to use
this game to play many games from around the world, makes
this a real value for both the home and the classroom.

It does not matter if you are younger or older. It
does not matter if you are a novice or a more experienced
player. Everyone will find a game to suit them and will
experience many years of game playing pleasure.

We are actually working on new games that can be played
using this set and and will post them in PDF format from
time to time. We are also accepting submissions and
for original games that use the same board and pieces
if we like your idea we will post it here with your,
name on it for the world to see.

LOOK...at our pictures and you will see that this game was
made to last for generations. The game board is milled from
�" thick wood and measures over 9"x9". The playing pieces
are cut from �" thick hardwood and all of the components
are nicely finished by hand.
